Guthan an Iar
Following the 2013-14 Ceòlas EOST project, which investigated the oral song tradition in Uist in the context of other European traditions, Guthan an Iar was set up as a song group in Uist. The group feature on the well-received CD ‘Gaoth an Iar’, which notable singers such as Gillebrìde MacMillan, Seumas Campbell, Penny Burgess and Paul McCallum. In 2018, ‘Aig an Iasgach’ was produced by Gillebrìde MacMillan for Dr Magnus Course (University of Edinburgh), which included the group singing local songs connected to the fishing.
The group helps to continue its Gaelic cultural inheritance by learning and performing songs within the vernacular style and tradition of the community and are seen at various cèilidhs and concerts from Èirisgeidh to Loch nam Madadh, and further afield.
