New Chairperson appointed for Ceòlas Uibhist

Isabell MacInnes has been announced as the new Chairperson of Ceòlas Uibhist.

Isabell has been on Ceòlas’ board of directors for several years and has a huge passion for Gaelic language, music, song and heritage.  She works for NHS Western Isles as a Health Protection and Screening Nurse Specialist.

Isabell said – “it is a great honour for me to take on the role of chair.  I want to convey my thanks to Màiri MacInnes who has led the Ceòlas board for many years.  Màiri will continue to be a director on the board to help lead the next phase of Cnoc Soilleir.”

Isabell continued – “Ceòlas is in a great place with a strong board of directors and local committee.  I want to welcome the new members who were appointed onto the board and committee and thank all those who make such a valuable contribution to the organisation.  I look forward to working with all stakeholders to continue to ensure Ceòlas’ growth.  I look forward to publishing our new Strategic and Operational Plan for 24-29 later in the year.”

Màiri MacInnes said – “It has been my privilege over many years as Chair to have worked steadily with board, committee and staff members of Ceòlas and progressed the organisation to become one with national and international standing for Gaelic language and culture.  This would not have been possible without the ongoing support of funding stakeholders – Creative Scotland, Bòrd na Gàidhlig, The Scottish Government, Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, Highlands & Islands Enterprise and private donors.  The tremendous achievement of Cnoc Soilleir is something for the community of South Uist to be proud of and enjoy.  Isabell MacInnes is rooted in Gaelic language and tradition and is an excellent choice of Chair for taking Ceòlas on the next stage of its journey.  I wish her every success.”

Pauline MacDonald rejoins the board after covering the role of Interim Manager before the appointment of our Ceannard.  Pàdruig Morrison, member of traditional Uist band – Beinn Lee, also joins the board.

Other Ceòlas board members include Iseabail MacDonald, Seonaidh MacIntyre, Julia MacIsaac, Sarah MacKay, William MacPhee and Alex O’ Henley.

Ceòlas’ annual summer school will take place between Sunday 2nd July and Friday 7th July.
