Caol Dòmhnullach – Kyle MacDonald
Caol Dòmhnullach – Kyle MacDonald is from Inverness, Cape Breton Island. One of the many dance players on the island, Kyle is often asked to play ceilidhs, concerts, weddings and other ceremonies. Kyle is also an award-winning recording artist, and has performed internationally. Graduate of the St. Francis Xavier music program, he went on to study a bachelor of education and works as a school teacher. This also allows Kyle to be involved at the Gaelic College in St. Ann’s and the Music Arts Program of the Nova Scotia Community College in Sydney.
When he was a young learner, new at the fiddle, Kyle was very fortunate to spend many hours with Cape Breton fiddling great Dougie MacDonald. Once hooked on the music and ready for lessons, Kyle learned a lot from Marianne Jewel, and spent time learning from Buddy MacMaster, John Campbell, Sandy MacIntyre, Stan Chapman, Jerry Holland, and Howie MacDonald. Kyle recorded an album with Howie which also features Patrick Gillis and Gordie Sampson on Guitars, and brothers Colin and Keith.
Kyle performs most regularly with his brothers. As often as they can they like to get together for a cèilidh and share songs, stories, and tunes. Keith is an accomplished piper playing both traditional and competitive styles, and Colin is a Gaelic speaker, piano and guitar accompanist. All three brothers were at Ceòlas in 2022, Kyle is excited to be returning to Ceòlas for 2023!
