Tionscadal an Annie Jane

A concert celebrating those who make the difficult choice to leave their home country in the hope of a better life.
“In late 1853, the ‘Annie Jane’ set sail from Liverpool, heading for Quebec, North America. On board were 450 men, women and children: Irish, Scottish and English emigrants fleeing poverty and famine.” Swiss missionaries and Québécois crew.
“They never made it.
At almost midnight on the 28th Septemeber the ship was wrecked 1000 of miles off course on the small island of Vatersay in the Outer Hebrides. Over 350 of the passengers and crew were lost that night.”
The concert comprises of Scottish, Irish and Candian traditional music with Highland, Irish and Canadian traditional dance celebrating the lives of those lost and those who still make the difficult and perilous choice to leave their own country in the hope of a better life.
