Ceòlas are delighted to announce the appointment of Frank McConnell as the Integration Manager funded by the Aspiring Communities Fund from the Scottish Government.
Frank McConnell was born and brought up in Glasgow of a family with strong South Uist ties and no real interest in the arts. After graduating from Jordanhill College as a P.E. teacher, he trained with Royston Maldoom and the Arts in Fife, where he cultivated a deep interest in creativity, the arts and education in its broadest sense.
He has performed and collaborated with many theatre companies, most notably Communicado. As a critically acclaimed choreographer of numerous original works, he has also been commissioned by several dance and opera companies in Britain and further afield. In May 2000, he was one of the first people in Britain to be awarded a Fellowship from the National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts. He is the founder of three significant dance companies in Scotland: Dundee Rep Dance Co (now Scottish Dance Theatre); Dannsa (a traditional dance collective); and his own company – plan B which closed last year.
Frank says, “Tha mi air mo dhòigh a bhith a’ tighinn dhachaidh do dh’Uibhist, agus tha mi’ n dòchas gum bi mòran làithean sona agam ag obair le mo cho-obraichean ùra aig Ceòlas, UHI / Colaisde a’ Chaisteil agus a’ choimhearsnachd.”
