Alex O’ Henley

About Alex:

Alex has served as UEFA’s Scotland Correspondent since 2004 and is well known to the Gaelic community as an award winning broadcaster and match commentator for BBC Alba and Radio nan Gàidheal.

Gaelic Ambassador of the Year in 2016, Alex was the first Gaelic Officer at the Scottish Parliament between 2000-2002 establishing and normalising the use of the language in all aspects of the Parliament’s working life.

After graduating from Glasgow University he worked as a field officer in the Southern Isles for the Historical Dictionary of Scottish Gaelic before entering broadcasting as a bilingual sub-editor, newsreader at the BBC, and was the first presenter of the acclaimed European current affairs programme, Eòrpa. In recent years Alex has balanced his work commitments with running the family croft on his native South Uist.
