July Virtual Programme

30th June 2020

Ceòlas will be bringing South Uist in July to you!

We were disappointed to have to cancel the summer school and symposium. Instead of welcoming you all to South Uist this year, we’ve been working hard behind the scene to bring several events from the community programme to a virtual audience.

Donations towards the programme can be made here.

In the lead-up to what would have been the week of the summer school, we’ve been sharing old videos from the Ceòlas archives on Facebook. BBC Radio nan Gàidheal has also re-broadcast Cathy Bhàn aig Ceòlas from 2015.

Piping Concert: 8 July, 9pm

Facebook & Youtube. In partnership with the BBC, Ceòlas has digitised the 2018 Piping Concert held in St Peter’s Hall, Dalabrog, featuring an unbeatable mix of summer school tutors and local pipers. The piping concert is always a great showcase Uist’s rich piping styles.

Fiddle Concert: 9 July, 9pm

Facebook & Youtube. The West Highland fiddle style will be at the forefront of this newly recorded fiddle recital with Gabe McVarish (Dàimh) and Aonghas Grant, the left-handed fiddler of Lochaber.

An Cèilidh Mòr: 10 July, 9pm

Facebook & Youtube. An Cèilidh Mòr is for many the peak of the summer school week and this year will be no different. Running just over an hour, pour yourself a dram after Na Dùrachdan and enjoy the best of Gàidhealach music and dance hosted by Uist’s own Alana MacInnes. Performances include:

An Cèilidh Mòr, which has been edited and mastered by Hamish MacLeod, will also premiere on BBC ALBA on 17 July.

Vlog Interviews

In addition to the three concerts, we’ve prepared 10 video interviews which will be posted through the week and you can see them here. Hosted by Alana MacInnes and in discussion with summer school tutors over the years, the vlogs highlight what’s so special about Ceòlas. Some are in Gaelic and some in English.

Symposium Events

Details to follow about the planned symposium events between 26-28 July.
