Update: work on the site has halted due to the non-essential nature of the work in line with government instruction during the coronavirus crisis.
The works started on site at the end of January 2020, and phase 1 is due to be complete in the spring of 2021.
The ground works are now almost complete, and the peat dug out and rock broken out to form the new road and sub base for the building.
The next main activity on site will be installing the ground slab and insulation of the building which will take place from early April.
The steel frame is programmed to be installed towards the end of June, followed by the upper floor structure and external walls and roof.
We had planned to run a series of informal information sessions for the local community in South Uist to keep them up to date with progress and news as the project develops. The current Covid-19 crisis means that we are unable to do this, so for the time being we will keep you posted through the news section on Ceòlas website and on social media.
