Solas/Sòlas film screening: “Solas/Sòlas” is a brand new Art documentary, produced by Canna Archivist Fiona Mackenzie for the National Trust for Scotland, profiling the life and work of Margaret Fay  Shaw, using her own voice and that of her friend Magda Sagarzazu. The film uses her own films and images of life in South Uist, Barra and Canna ,to tell the story of her long life documenting  a Hebridean lifestyle no longer in existence.  The film incorporates a newly composed soundtrack by well known musician from Lewis, James Duncan Mackenzie, using Margaret’s films  and John Lorne Campbell’s extensive sound archive as inspiration. This will be the premiere screening of this new film and was made possible with support from the NTS USA Foundation.

‘Eilean’ book launchEilean features almost 200 of the best and most personal of Margaret Fay Shaw’s Hebridean photographs – a collection of some 9,000 photographs and film – from the magnificent Campbell collections at Canna House, where she and her husband John Lorne Campbell made their home for 60 years. The book is complete with relevant anecdotes and correspondence researched by Fiona J. Mackenzie and an introductory essay by the former archivist of Fay Shaw’s collection, Magdalena Sagarzazu.
