How to get to Daliburgh from within the Western IslesCeòlas provides a dedicated mini-bus service for participants attending classes.   This service is designed to ensure students get to and from classes.

Arriving in Scotland: if you are traveling from a European or International destination the best arrival airport for the UK is Glasgow International. The second best option is Glasgow Prestwick, located about 25 minutes drive from Glasgow International. A bus service runs between the two airports.

You can fly from Glasgow direct to Benbecula with Loganair, two and three times daily http://www.flybe.com  

Ferry services are much cheaper this year with the RET fares so take advantage in summer 2009!

The shortest drive but the longest crossing by boat is from the ferry terminal in Oban.  www.calmac.co.uk/reserve  To Lochboisdale.  

Or, you can drive to Uig in the North of Skye (5 hours from Glasgow) and take the 1 3/4 hour trip to North Uist (Lochmaddy), then a drive south for just over 1 hour to Daliburgh.

You can travel on to South Uist in a variety of ways (see Visit Hebrides website for further details including travel maps, or ring Tourist Information in Lochboisdale on +44 1878 700 286):

  • By bus - to the ferry connection ports of Oban or Uig - contact Citylink. The Oban to Lochboisdale (South Uist) ferry -  Glasgow Buchanan Street to Uig on the Island of Skye to connect with the Uig to Lochmaddy (North Uist) ferry - Lochmaddy is about 40 miles from Daliburgh but there is an inter-island bus service.

  • By train - contact ScotRail. You can travel by train on the West Highland Line from Glasgow Queen Street station to the ferry connection ports of Oban  This is a spectacular journey and well worth taking the time out to enjoy.

Whatever way you choose to travel to South Uist, pause do take in the beauty of Scotland, the wildlife, the flowers, the fresh air - and relax, you won't have the time when you get to Ceòlas!
