29th November 2018

A new Dance Development Officer will soon be running dance activities in Uist. Lowenna Hosken, who started in post at the beginning of November, will be based part-time in Ceòlas’ office in Dalabrog, South Uist.

Originally from Cornwall, Lowenna grew up dancing the traditional Cornish social and step dances. She was dancer and choreographer with several Cornish groups such as Keskowethyans, Kekezza and Hevva across Europe, America and the Caribbean.

She also trained in ballet, tap, jazz, modern, Spanish, amongst others, at the Bev-Lyn School of Dance in Cornwall and as a professional musical theatre performer at the Centre for Performing Arts College in Kent.

Most recently, Lowenna gained undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in Scottish Ethnology from the University of Edinburgh, where she was based at the School of Scottish Studies.

As Ceòlas’ new Dance Development Officer, she will work to augment existing dance activity in schools, community groups and care homes across Uist. Please contact the Ceòlas office if you would like to arrange a meeting with Lowenna.

The position is funded through a grant by the Robertson Trust and NHS Eileanan Siar, and will build upon the achievements of the previous officer, Sorcha Monk.
