Songs and poetry, words and sayings, stories and novels, local literature as part of Book Week Scotland 2017. Linda NicLeòid, from Càirinis, North Uist, is a well-known Gaelic singer and television presenter. She is the Gaelic Books Council’s Young Gaelic Reading Ambassador, bringing ’Leugh is Seinn’ to audiences across Scotland.

 

 

Catrìona NicIlleDhuibh, daughter of the scholar Raghnall MacIlleDhuibh, is an author and artist who has created a range of projects over the years, including Gaelic children’s books and the short film Pìobairean Bhòrnais. Her new book reinvigorates rare words collected by Fr Allan MacDonald.

 

 

Seonag Monk is a popular BBC presenter and a multi awarding winning author;  The Donald Meek award and the highly contested Celtic media festival award for entertainment for the Comedy Dà Là san Dàmhair co-written with Calum MacKinnon  among her accolades. Seonag from Gramsdale, Benbecula has been writing for over twenty years and has written for television, radio, stage and her screenplay for Channel Four The Green Man of Knowledge,  whose main character was voiced by Brian Cox, went on to be BAFTA nominated.  She has written several children’s books and her first full length novel Mil San Tì – a story about the lives of three very different women has  been widely praised. “a very compelling read”, “the eloquence and richness of the writing alone is a delight for lovers of the Gaelic language, but coupled with a really good story makes Mil San Tì something rather special.”

 

Marion Fiona Mhoireasdan, with strong Barra and Uist roots, is the 2017 recipient of the Gaelic New Writer’s Award for Poetry, awarded by the Gaelic Books Council and the Scottish Book Trust. As part of the award, she has participated in a year-long writer’s support programme.
